A local nonprofit, with the mission to provide individualized workouts and resources to people with spinal cord injuries and other forms of paralysis, needed help. While their community reach was poised to expand, their space was hindering their growth. Since 2008, McBride and the organization have worked together, with the firm first assisting them in securing a location in Riverdale, NJ. After outgrowing that space, McBride negotiated a lease for a building in Oakland, NJ that they remained in for seven years, but eventually outgrew as well. With a long list of conditions their new space had to meet to accommodate the special needs of their injured and disabled clientele, they turned to McBride Corporate Real Estate once again. It is their strong relationship and 15-year history that became the foundation for success – a bigger facility in an advantageous location.

Challenge

Push to Walk is a nonprofit that empowers people who have suffered severe spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries and paralysis to have a brighter future through innovative, specialized treatment. Experiencing rapid growth over the last decade, Push to Walk outgrew their spaces three times over – moving first from a 1,000-square-foot location to a 3,550-square-foot space in Riverdale and later to a facility that is approximately 7,800-square-feet in Oakland, NJ. Offering customized programs to help their clients regain strength, improve their function, and enhance their daily lives, Push to Walk required a particular space to fit their unique needs and help them serve their clients. Many of the organization’s clients use wheelchairs, so it was imperative for Push to Walk’s new space to be on the ground floor with access to numerous handicapped parking spaces for their exclusive use. The space also needed to be able to accommodate a myriad of large equipment, including a skeletal device that hangs from the ceiling and includes approximately 50 feet of aerial track. The device holds a patient’s body weight in a suspended harness, allowing them to walk and develop neuromuscular strength and skills. Not only did Push to Walk need a larger space, but also one better geographically suited for their clients. Some of the organization’s clients travel long distances to utilize their services, coming from across the state or from out-of-state destinations.

Solution

McBride was honored when Push to Walk reached out to the firm again to help them find a larger space so the organization could do their important work serving their community. Results

With the help of McBride Corporate Real Estate, Push to Walk selected a beautiful, 11,000-square foot space in Montvale, NJ, which is more than three times the space they had in their Riverdale location. The new space has allowed Push to Walk to better serve those with traumatic injuries, with expanded availability to see more clients and employ more therapists and trainers. The new location is conveniently accessible from NJ-87, Interstate 287, and the Garden State Parkway, and can be easily located by new visitors. Not only did McBride help to find Push to Walk’s upgraded space, but we also helped provide guidance and negotiated the lease to ensure the organization can achieve their mission in a space that promotes the progress of those they serve and reflects the growth of the organization.
